Can herpes be cured with honey?

Herpes is one of the most common diseases. In total, seven types of this viral infection are distinguished, and the effect of the sixth and seventh types on the human body has not been fully understood.

Treating herpes with honey will be effective during the active phase. And this is proven by clinical studies. Source: NS Al-Waili. Topical honey application vs. acyclovir for the treatment of recurrent herpes simplex lesions. Med Sci Monit, 2004; 10 (8): MT94-8

Features of the disease

Herpes infection quickly becomes latent. After suppression, it remains in the nerve ganglia, not manifesting itself in any way for months or even years.

Relapses are caused by a decrease in immunity or a change in hormonal levels (in women). Insufficient knowledge and a variety of symptoms in some cases complicate the diagnosis.

And with only three types of virus, the diagnosis is quite simple. It:

  • the first type, oral, affecting the lips and / or mouth;
  • the second, responsible for painful rashes on the genitals (can affect the entire reproductive system in women, provoking infertility);
  • the third, causing chickenpox and shingles (often the second disease is a consequence of the transferred chickenpox).

The first type of virus infects up to 70 percent of the world’s population (according to WHO). Africa and the Mediterranean are in the lead. The second type is less common – about 11 percent of cases. The third type is predominantly common in children. Chickenpox is easier for them than for adults. But in newborns, it leads to severe damage to internal organs (death occurs in 31 percent of cases of congenital chickenpox if the mother falls ill a few days before delivery).

Medotherapy

Treatment with honey has been clinically investigated in the treatment of herpes caused by viruses of the first and second types. The effects of the bee product were compared with acyclovir applied as a cream.

honey

Doctors monitored the duration of the exacerbation period, the rate of crust formation, and the severity of pain. Honey has shown the following results:

  • the exacerbation lasted less (in some cases it was possible to stop it completely);
  • after a day, the pain became moderate or mild;
  • tingling and burning sensation decreased or also disappeared within a day (acyclovir gave a similar result in two or three days);
  • honey did not provoke side effects (development of itching).

That is, medical therapy in fact significantly speeds up recovery and relieves unpleasant symptoms.

The reason for this efficiency is antibacterial properties bee product and its the ability to reduce the content of prostaglandins in tissues and body fluids (relieve acute inflammation and pain).

Antibacterial activity is due to the content of hydrogen peroxide, ascorbic acid and other vitamins, as well as amino acids, flavonoids, zinc, copper.

When using honey stimulates the synthesis of nitric oxide, which strengthens the immune system and allows the body to effectively defend itself against viruses, bacteria, protozoa and tumor cells.

Applications

The treatment regimen is quite simple. It is necessary to soak a piece of gauze or bandage with a liquid honey product, and then apply this kind of compress to the sore spot for fifteen minutes.

deposition

The procedure is performed daily three to four times until complete recovery..

By the way, acyclovir will have to be applied up to six times a day. Increasing itching and burning can be a side effect. Honey does not cause such symptoms. Of course, provided it is tolerated by the patient’s body.

Pure application

It is convenient to apply pure honey on the lips or on the lesions of the mucous membrane in the oral cavity.

To do this, a bandage is wound around a finger, dipped in a liquid bee product and gently applied to a herpes rash. After treatment, you must not eat or drink for 20-30 minutes.

The procedure is carried out up to 5-6 times a day until complete recovery (relieving exacerbation).

Rinse solution

It is taken:

  • one or two tablespoons of fresh or dried chamomile flowers;
  • two glasses of boiling water (400 ml);
  • two teaspoons of natural honey.

Flowers languish in a water bath for ten to fifteen minutes, cooled and filtered. Then the broth is mixed with honey and used to rinse the mouth or wash the external genitals.

Safety measures

Herpes is contagious! To protect the people around you, especially children, you must:

  • change used towels daily (dirty towels are washed at high temperatures and ironed thoroughly);
  • select dishes for yourself that are washed separately during the entire period of exacerbation and, preferably, rinsed with boiling water;
  • change bed linen daily (for rashes on the lips, it is enough to change the pillowcase);
  • not kissing children (kissing a sick parent can provoke the virus into the mucous membranes or eyes, which causes severe inflammation in the child);
  • touch the inflammation zones as rarely as possible (on contact, hands are washed well with hot water and soap; honey is applied to the affected area with a hygienic stick or bandage).

The virus is contained in the fluid secreted at the site of inflammation. Once crusts have formed, the risk of infection is reduced or eliminated entirely.
