Growing tomato seedlings according to the Ganichkina method

Getting to know Ganichkina

Oktyabrina Ganichkina conducts most of the television programs devoted to gardening and truck farming. Oktyabrina She got a Ph.D. in agricultural sciences and wrote a large number of works on growing seedlings of fruits and vegetables. Her advice is especially popular among professional gardeners.

She has her own Youtube channel, where she talks about methods of growing crops and shows the principle of work. Thanks to the advice of this woman, beginners in the field of agriculture were able to learn all the subtleties of agricultural technology and the principles of cultivating crops.

Planting seeds

Most gardeners prefer purchased seedlings, but grown in at home, the seedlings are much healthier and better.

Disinfection

The seeds are first disinfected. For these purposes, universal preparations are used (Epin and Energen), which not only disinfect planting material, but also stimulate its growth. Seeds are soaked in a similar solution for about 24 hours. After that, they are wrapped in a plastic bag and put in the refrigerator for several hours.

Sowing dates

Sowing seeds at home is carried out, depending on the cultivated variety.

  • If you decide to plant undersized crops, sowing is carried out in April. After 30 days, seedlings appear, and after 60 days they are planted in open ground or a greenhouse.
  • Seeds of late-ripening crops are sown in March. After 40 days, seedlings appear, and after 70 days you can plant seedlings.

Tatyana Orlova (candidate of agricultural sciences):

Tomato seeds germinate and germinate on average for 5-7 days. 15-20 days after the emergence of seedlings they dive.

Planting rules

Sowing seeds is carried out in plastic cups. It is best to use disposable containers. Each seed is placed in its own glass so that the tomatoes do not obscure each other and do not cross by the root system, because this slows down their growth. Sowing depth should not exceed 3 cm.

For rapid germination of O seeds.Ganichkina recommends covering the glasses with film and placing them in a well-lit place (window sill or balcony).

At home, you need to accurately regulate the temperature regime. Daytime temperature should not be lower than 20 ° С, at night it is forbidden to lower indicators below 15 ° С. A temperature of about 30 ° C causes the seedlings to stop growing. As a result, the flowers do not form or the plant stops growing, the root system cannot form correctly. As a result, the number of yields decreases several times.

Tatyana Orlova (Candidate of Agricultural Sciences):

Immediately after emergence, the growing temperature is reduced by 5 -7 degrees. This is done so that the seedlings do not stretch, because at a high temperature only the aboveground part of the tomato grows, and the root remains in its infancy.

Preparing seedlings

Seedlings must be tempered

Tomato seedlings according to the Ganichkina method must pass certain preparation stages:

  1. Formation. As soon as the plant reaches 60 days, the first central bud is formed on it. It must be removed, otherwise other buds do not have the ability to form.As a result, fruiting is minimal.
  2. Feeding. Before planting in open ground or a greenhouse, seedlings must be fed. For these purposes, nitrate nitrate is used, which allows you to accelerate the process of root formation. As a result, the plant is quickly taken up by the soil.
  3. Hardening. The hardening process consists in the fact that seedlings are taken out a week before planting in a permanent place. The first 2 days it should be on the street for no more than 3 hours. After that, gradually, the time spent on the street is increased until it reaches 8 hours a day. Hardening is necessary so that the plant does not experience stress when planting in open ground or a greenhouse.

Planting process

Preference should be given to light and nutritious soils. In loamy and clayy places fruiting occurs late. Select areas with constant sunlight and protection against drafts.

The plant cannot be planted in a permanent place very early: this will lead to growth retardation, as a result, seedlings will not take root well in the soil. Determinant tomatoes are planted in a greenhouse or open ground at the age of 60 days. Indeterminate tomatoes are planted when they are 70 days old.

The timing of planting depends on the climate of the region. If you plant tomatoes in an unheated greenhouse in early May, the plant will be much healthier and more fruitful. In open ground, landing is carried out on the 20th of May.The height of the plant should be at least 25 cm, otherwise it will not be able to go through acclimatization.

When planting, one should remember the correct pattern: between rows there should be a distance of 60 cm, between holes – about 70 cm .

Care rules

Care rules are sufficient lighting, optimal temperature conditions and fertilizers.

  • The daytime ambient temperature should not be below 18 ° C. If there is a change in weather and the temperature drops, the landing area is covered with plastic wrap. Protective measures are carried out until the ovaries begin to form. Only after this shelter is removed.
  • An important stage of care is watering. Ganichkina O. recommends watering only with boiled warm water. Water should not fall on tomato leaves: this will lead to rotting of the leaves, so watering is carried out only at the root.
  • Fertilizing is carried out immediately after the appearance of the first leaf. The first 3 weeks of feeding are carried out only with mineral fertilizers. For the correct growth and strength of the main stem, the preparations Kornerost and Vegetta are used. 1 spoon of each substance is diluted in 5 l of warm water, after which root dressing is performed. After planting in a permanent place, mineral fertilizers (phosphorus, potassium and nitrogen) alternate with organic substances (humus and bird droppings). With nitrogen substances, you need to be careful not to burn the roots of the bush.
  • It is important to learn how to properly tie the bushes and form them in 1-2 stems. Garter is necessary so that the plant does not break under the influence of large fruits. Tie up seedlings begin immediately after planting in open ground or a greenhouse. As a garter material, a wooden support and dense fabric dressings are used. The bush is formed by removing all side shoots. Also pinch the top: they are gaining active growth. Pinching allows you to increase productivity.

Tatyana Orlova (candidate of agricultural sciences):

To twine the tomato bushes, use strong twine, which tied in the form of a free loop under the first pair of leaves. The twine is attached (tied) to the crossbars of the greenhouse or to special hooks and the tomato plant is wrapped around the twine clockwise as it grows.
