Lovely scarlet flowers – cyclamen – care

Cyclamen is the finest flowering perennial plant in the primrose family. When buying this beautiful potted plant, you should not hope and expect that it will always look like this. Immediately after flowering, the cyclamen loses its decorative effect, but you can try to save it until next year and wait for the next flowering.

Cyclamen blooms from autumn to spring. During flowering, the plant needs abundant clarification, the best temperature for it is 12-14 degrees. It must be watered abundantly, but carefully so that the water does not get on the bulb of the plant. It is best to pour water into the pan of the pot. After flowering, the cyclamen begins a period of calm: it is almost not watered, but the soil should not be allowed to completely dry out, while keeping it in a cool and dry place. In this case, the plant loses its leaves, and only tubers remain. Tubers are transplanted into new soil in June – July, into a mixture of leafy soil with the addition of peat, sand and humus and begin to water abundantly. First, the leaves grow, and then buds appear on long petioles, which will soon delight you with beautiful flowers with bent petals.

Cyclamen can also be grown from seeds that are sown in July – September. The best temperature for seed germination is between 20-22 degrees. The seed sprouts only after a month. When the first two leaves appear, in December, the seedlings dive. Small tubers are completely covered with earth. They are planted in pots only in the spring, making sure that the tubers are not completely covered with earth. It takes a little more than a year from the moment of sowing the seeds to the beginning of full flowering.
