But in order to create them, it is necessary to take into account all the indicators important for the life of plants: heating, lighting, watering and, of course, humidifying the air. In this case, the last indicator must be maintained at a strictly defined level.
Moisture value in a growbox
The value of moisture for plants is difficult to overestimate. However, humidification of greenhouses must also be carried out strictly according to the regulations. Lack of moisture will lead to drying out: the tips of young leaves will begin to dry out and curl.
Waterlogging of crops leads to the appearance of gray rot on the stems of foliage and flowers. Also, the appearance of rusty spots may indicate an excess of moisture. This is due to the development of pathogens and fungi.
For the normal development of plants, moisture should be about 80% during the rooting of young seedlings, 65-70% after the appearance of 3 pairs of leaves (during the active growing season) and 50% during the transition to the flowering stage.
Moisture measuring instruments
It is impossible to measure the humidity level in a mini-greenhouse by eye. For this, there are special devices – hygrometers. Depending on the model, they can measure absolute, relative humidity or dew point. In a grow box, only the relative humidity needs to be measured.
According to the principle of operation and the degree of convenience, such models also differ. You can purchase a hygrometer with an arrow or an electronic display, with or without a temperature sensor, with a remote or built-in sensor, etc.

These are economy class models. They have two scales: one displays the temperature regime, the other displays the level of humidity. Absolute accuracy in readings cannot be achieved with such a device. Therefore, if you need jewelry accuracy in determining moisture content (for example, when germinating seeds of whimsical exotics), then it is better to abandon such devices. But for an adult plant in a greenhouse, this is a completely suitable and economical option.
Digital hygrometer
Digital models are more accurate in determining moisture and temperature indicators. Depending on the modification, the devices can have a different set of additional functions or a remote sensor. The price of the device changes according to the configuration.

The hygrometer should not be placed near heating or lighting fixtures.
The sensors should be at foliage level and in close proximity to plants.

Devices for maintaining humidity

Cold humidifier

It can be used to create a tropical climate. By the principle of operation, it resembles an ordinary kettle or stewpan with water, brought to a boil.
The disadvantage of this type is the high consumption of electricity, as well as the need to choose more expensive models with a high-quality hydrostat. If the equipment was started with a faulty hydrostat, the device can harm the seedlings or even destroy all the seedlings.
Ultrasonic humidifier
One of the most effective and safest models. The bottom line is the production of steam using an ultrasonic membrane. At the outlet of the device, microscopic drops of steam are dispersed by a built-in fan. The indisputable advantages are:
- any humidity level can be maintained;
- the accuracy of humidification is regulated on the control unit, according to the readings of the built-in hygrometer;
- the temperature of the generated steam does not exceed 40 ° C, which allows maintaining the temperature balance in the grow box.
For greater convenience, the system can be fully automated, equipped with electronic sensors and even a remote control panel.
How do I install the hardware?
Humidifiers and hygrometers require no special installation knowledge. Depending on the model, the device can be installed in the tent of the grow box or installed on the floor of the box.
The main condition for hygrometers is maximum proximity to plants.
The closer the sensors are, the more accurate results the grower can get.
In most cases, humidifiers are installed at a certain distance so that moisture does not fall directly on the leaves of plants, but is scattered over the entire area of the greenhouse. Also, it will not be superfluous to take care of fire safety and fix the humidifiers further from lamps and electrical appliances.
