Features of growing

There are two ways to grow this variety:

  • in open ground;
  • using seedlings .

Seeds are planted in open ground. Before that, they can be processed using a concentrated solution of potassium permanganate or soaked in water for several hours until white spouts appear. Seeds should be planted in April, when the ground has already warmed up to at least 10 ° C.

Special holes are made for the seeds, 2-3 pieces are placed in each with their spouts up, having previously abundantly watered the soil and adding ash. After 3 months, the first crop will appear.

The plants need good care

The best way to grow crops is with seedlings, especially in the northern regions. So the plant takes root faster and gives a good harvest. Seedlings need to be prepared independently. First, buy the required amount of seeds.

For them you need to take a natural fabric or gauze, folded in 2-4 layers. The fabric must be wet, put the seeds inside and cover them. Leave the material for 3-4 days, during which the fabric needs to be wetted when it dries.

You can put these seeds in the refrigerator for a day directly in the fabric, this helps the plant become frost-resistant. Small containers are prepared for seedlings, you can use ordinary plastic cups, but peat pots are better.

Pre-prepare the soil, it should be with mineral fertilizers. Seeds are planted to a depth of 2-3 cm so that the seedlings germinate through the ground. After seedlings, it is abundantly watered and covered with a film. Leave it like this for a month, watering 1-2 times in two weeks.

You need to choose the time for planting in advance. The description suggests that seedlings are prepared from the 20th of April to May 10, and planting in open ground from May 10 to June 20. The temperature of the earth must be at least 10 ° C. Because the bushes tend to weave, optimally plant sprouts with a pattern of 90 x 150 cm.

Care

Proper care is required for the plant. Choose a warm and well-lit place. For the Atlant variety, soil with low acidity, but with a large amount of organic fertilizers, is more suitable. The plant tolerates drought well, has resistance to rot and powdery mildew.

To get a good harvest, you need to regularly water the pumpkin bush. Moisturize it immediately after planting, and then every week so that 1 bucket of water per week leaves on one bush. Do not water the bush after the fruits are tied. If the soil moisture is sufficient, the pumpkins will mature well and without watering.

The fruits grow big, the bushes weave, so you need to pinch the side lashes and the main stem, as well as regularly weed. Periodically, the soil where the culture grows, you need to feed organic mixtures.

Harvest in late September, then the pumpkins reach their maximum size. They are well transported and stored under proper conditions for up to a year.
