Treatment of tomato cladosporiosis

Cladosporiosis of tomatoes is most common. The second name of the disease is brown leaf spot. Curing the disease is not so simple. Most often found in crops grown in greenhouses or greenhouses, plants growing in open land are quite rare. The greatest danger is that the fungus that causes the appearance of spots on the leaves can withstand frost and drought.

Treatment of tomato cladosporiosis

How to recognize an ailment and what it is

Before you start treatment of tomato cladosporiosis, you need to study the characteristics of the disease and to learn to identify it according to the main signs. It is necessary to conduct a thorough examination of each bush. The main symptoms of a fungal infection:

  • during the active growth of seedlings and flowering, gray spots appear, which in their appearance are very similar to rot, the inner part of the foliage: small dots of a yellow-green hue are visible from the outside;
  • halt the development of the fruit;
  • drying of the leaf part of the tomato.

On the second stage is the blocking of the supply of nutrients to the stem and root I’m looking for, which provokes a slowdown in the growth of the tomato itself. Tomato ripening and growth slows down very much. Cladosporiosis of tomatoes in the last stage leads to the death of the plant. The leaf part dries and curls.Before this, the fruits acquire a brown hue, and the bottom of the leaves completely covers the rot.

Favorable conditions for the development of the fungus are increased humidity and temperature in the range of 22-25 ° C. The fungus, most often, is transmitted by airborne droplets, during the ventilation of the greenhouse or watering, by spraying. Pathogenic microorganisms are represented by a huge number of births.

Types of therapy

It is better to start the treatment of the disease at an early stage, then there is a very high probability of maintaining the yield and getting rid of the fungus completely. With a decrease in humidity of up to 60%, new symptoms of the disease appear quite rarely. It is better, of course, to choose hybrid varieties of tomato resistant to fungal infection for planting in greenhouses. Ways of struggle involve several types of treatment:

  • agrotechnical;
  • folk remedies;
  • using chemistry.

Treatment methods should be selected depending on the variety. Even the most resistant tomato varieties are not susceptible to cladosporiosis of a particular strain. To fight the disease you need to start when you detect the first symptoms. In many ways, the spread of tomato disease is affected by the proper care of crops; spores will not germinate without favorable conditions. First of all, you should remove the affected leaves or plants completely, as well as change the strategy of caring for them, so that in the future it would not be necessary to use fungicides.

Agrotechnical method

Agrotechnical methods of control include the removal of all affected leaves, frequent ventilation of the greenhouse and a reduction in the frequency of watering. Watering plants need about 1 time per week. To reduce the risk of spreading the fungus, cover the soil between the plants with a dark plastic wrap and remove all leaves on which the borax is visible.

Infected leaves must be removed with extreme caution to prevent infection of surrounding plants. To do this, take a plastic bag and carefully put on the affected area, and then nip off. Ideally, you need to remove the affected plant completely and burn it to prevent the spread of spores. The thing is that the spores of the fungus are very similar in appearance to dust, and when they get on the leaves, under favorable conditions, they begin to sprout actively, blocking the photosynthesis of the tomato.

Alternative methods

Бороться с заболеванием можно народными методами

You can fight the disease using folk methods

To fight the disease, if the previous method did not fit, you can folk remedies. Such methods are much safer than the use of fungicides, but their effectiveness will depend on many aspects. Cladosporiosis of tomatoes has been terrorizing gardeners for many years, so people have long learned how to deal with it.One of the most common methods of controlling folk remedies is watering and spraying with an aqueous solution of potassium permanganate. The watering solution should be pale pink.

The most universal remedy is garlic. He is good in the treatment of human diseases and will help plants effectively get rid of fungal infections. To prepare the solution you will need: 0.5 kg of garlic, 30 drops of iodine per 10 liters. water. With this composition, it is necessary to process all the bushes, both affected and healthy. The treatment should begin with healthy plants.

In combination with watering and spraying with potassium permanganate, it is recommended to use parallel watering with a decoction of ash. 10 liters water you need to take 300 g of ash and boil it for 15 minutes. An effective remedy is a baby or household soap, which should be added in small amounts to water for irrigation and spraying.

Chemical compositions

If the fight against cladosporiosis was futile, you will have to resort to radical methods and use fungicides – chemicals with a wide spectrum of action. One of these drugs is Bravo. The treatment started on time gives greater effectiveness, that is, when there is a possibility of infection, the drug should be introduced, even at the planting stage, when the infection has not yet occurred.If the drug is used at a time when the symptoms of the disease have already begun to appear, then precautionary measures must be taken because the drug has fairly high toxicity to animals, bees and birds, and it is also forbidden to use this type of fungicide in the immediate vicinity of water bodies.

The dosage of the drug is calculated depending on the area of planted crops. Another effective drug for getting rid of fungal disease is Ditan Neo Tech. Belongs to a wide range of fungicides. It shows the greatest efficiency when processing before infection with a fungus. It is important to observe the interval between treatments of 7-10 days so that there is no infection of a new growth.

The new generation fungicides presented continue to work even after precipitation, the main thing is that after treatment moisture will not get into the ground for 3 -6 o’clock. Processing should be carried out after the plants dry out from dew or precipitation. Prevents the occurrence of resistance in pathogen strains. Several other drugs can be used to treat and prevent the disease:

  • Pseudobacterium 2;
  • Phtosporin;
  • Abiga Peak.

Despite the effectiveness of the drugs, fungicides are quite toxic. Not every method is suitable for everyone, so many gardeners try to cope with the disease with folk remedies. The main measure to combat the disease is timely prevention and proper care.

Prevention

The source of the infection of conidia is on the remains of plants. They can remain viable for several months, even at low air temperature and aridity; therefore, the main method of prevention is the complete cleaning of areas from the remains of infected plants. Preventive measures to prevent cladosporiosis can avoid future infection problems and grow a good crop. The main preventive measures:

  • humidity in the walls of the greenhouse 60-70%;
  • temperature regime 18-20 ° C;
  • complete destruction of last year’s plants residues, by burning;
  • treat the seeds before sowing a solution of potassium permanganate;
  • avoid overmoistening of the earth-mixture;
  • you can treat the bushes with copper sulfate.

Prevention measures include planting resistant varieties. All of the above measures for the prevention of the disease are effective when growing crops in a greenhouse. In open ground, cladosporiosis affects plants much less frequently. In order not to look for ways to combat cladosporiosis, you need to think about the selection of crops for cultivation. The disease-resistant tomato varieties are presented below.

  1. “Our Masha.”
  2. “Space Star.”
  3. “Delicacy.”
  4. “Funtik.”
  5. “Eupator.”
  6. “Vezha.”

The final part

Using various methods of combating cladosporiosis, you need to remember safety precautions, especially when fungicides and other toxic drugs are used. It is preferable to choose a method of treatment with folk remedies, but if you still had to use chemistry, you need to carefully study the instructions for use. In chemical processing, adult plants absorb part of the chemical components in any case.

In order not to poison your loved ones, you must wait at least 3 weeks before eating processed fruits. If infected plants are found, it is best to destroy them immediately, and treat the healthy bushes with a solution of manganese.
