How this breed appeared

In the Middle Ages, those who ruled the Marwar region started breeding this breed, it was the 12th century, and the breeders were already actively taking care so that the horse has pure blood, its endurance is developed, horses are selected for breeding of this breed about very strict rules.In cavalry times, these horses found their direct purpose: in battles, the rider felt very confident, because by the nature of Marvari they are distinguished by courage and fidelity.

Today, scientists hypothesize that this horse’s great-grandfathers are horses from countries such as Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. The blood of Arabian horses and horses from Mongolia also flows in their veins, similar features can be found in the external characteristics of the listed individuals, and if you put in one row photos of all the listed species, you can be sure. However, there is something that none of the great-grandfathers have: this is an interesting shape of the ears that resembles a heart. This feature, again, is clearly visible in the photo.

Previously, the Marwar horse actively participated in the battles and was used for riding, but only privileged persons could ride it.

In the 20th century, this breed was mistreated in India, which led to to a decrease in livestock. Today this is no longer a problem. However, Marvari are still rare horses. Buying them is not so easy. The fact is that these horses are forbidden to be taken outside of India. Only in 2000 did it become real.

Exterior and character

The Marvar horse has an original character. She has a very well developed intuition, this leads to the fact that the Marvar horse can easily return home. This ability has helped Marvari more than once and even saved her life.

The breed has excellent sensory organs: hearing, sight, and smell. This means that the horse can determine the approaching dangerous situation. Fidelity is also characteristic of this breed: even a wounded horse will not abandon its owner in trouble.

The representatives of the breed have an average height of 152-163 cm, which is noticeable in the photo. But I must say that if a horse comes from certain areas of India, then its growth may be slightly above average.

This horse is characterized by a large head and a straight profile. The ears are quite long: from 9 to 15 cm – can turn 180 °. The neck is long, the withers are well formed.The horse is characterized by straight shoulders, making it easy for the animal to move through the desert: the Marvar horse easily releases his legs from deep sand. Of course, the speed from this decreases, but the rider feels fine from above.

Color

These Indian horses can be of different stripes, but red horses are most often found. Gray and piebald color is very much appreciated. The black color of the horse symbolizes death. each of the tones can be seen in the photo.

Indians believe that the Marwar horse:

  • of black color can promise trouble to its owner;
  • with white socks and it will definitely bring happiness to the owner with specks.

White horses are bred in India for religious purposes.
