Biofilter – Hydroponics

Conductometer

The biofilter is designed mainly to provide an environment in which microorganisms can grow in large numbers and, decomposing dead organic matter, release many mineral elements, amino acids, useful phytohormones and poisons into the nutrient solution to fight pathogenic fungi.

It is best to use a biofilter in hydroponics with a separate dedicated pump outside the main branch of the nutrient solution circulation.

Design

The biofilters are equipped with a synthetic sponge that acts as a pre-filter, capturing debris that the microbes will decompose on site. Then, in the filter there is a space filled with a substrate that serves as a habitat and reproduction for colonies of bacteria and fungi. This type of filter is useful for the decomposition of dead plant matter, for the introduction of microorganisms into the nutrient solution and for bioponics.
