Grow Box Ventilation – Hydroponics

Ventilation in a grow room is an essential component of climate control. Plants need fresh air for the respiration process. With the help of well-adjusted ventilation, carbon dioxide is evenly distributed and photosynthesis is actively proceeding. Without good ventilation, bacteria and fungal spores can and do spread in the air, which definitely contributes to the development of diseases in plants. In addition, some crops do not have a particularly pleasant odor during flowering, or at other stages, which can be a big problem for indoor cultivation. This disadvantage can also be solved with the help of well-adjusted ventilation.

Tips and Tricks

Grow Box Ventilation - HydroponicsThere are several guidelines to help you create a good ventilation system in your Growbox.

Council first. It is necessary not only to supply fresh air to the grow box, but also to remove polluted air. For this, it is necessary to make two holes – one for the supply of fresh air, the other for the exit of contaminated air.

The second council. As everyone knows, warm air rises up and cold air goes down. Thus, the inlet must be at the bottom and the outlet at the top. This will improve the air circulation in the grow box.

Council of the third. It is better to install the fan at the outlet rather than at the inlet. That is, its task will be to remove heated air from the grow box, and cool air will flow itself.

Fourth advice. The free hole should be slightly larger than the one in which the fan is installed. If you do not follow this advice, then the air intake will not be efficient enough.

Equipment selection

The fan is selected based on the volume of the growbox. To calculate the volume, we multiply the length by the width and by the height. A good fan should blow a volume of air equal to the volume of the growbox 2 times per minute. Thus, if the volume of the box is 1 cubic meter, then a fan is needed that drives 2 cubic meters of air per minute per minute. This will give the plants full ventilation. It is worth considering that equipment that heats up quite strongly can be placed in the growbox. In this case, there may be a need for a more powerful fan to ensure a normal temperature in the box.

Ventilation equipment can be bought in specialized stores, or assembled by yourself, using, for example, coolers to cool computer elements.
