Tree bark as a substrate for growing plants – Hydroponics

The roots

Tree bark is another good growing medium. Yes, wood does decompose, but plant root growth fills in the voids created by slowly decaying wood particles and prevents significant shrinkage. Tree bark is good for growing trees and shrubs – which sounds logical.

Most often, pine bark is used for cultivation – as the most accessible and studied substrate.

The use of tree bark has its own characteristics. For use as a substrate, the bark must be crushed.

In contrast to the use of fertilizer-rich soils, the bark is practically devoid of mineral nutrients. As a result, it is very important to additionally apply complex fertilizers. Complete hydroponic fertilizers such as the Hydroponics Kit or the GHE Flora Series are good options.
