Thorny pets – care

Cacti have recently become the object of our attention. Their huge variety never ceases to amaze true connoisseurs. Flower shops are stocked with a huge assortment of these fun plants. But not every buyer knows how to properly care for cacti. I would like to share with you my many years of experience.

My fascination with cacti began at school, when these plants were still something insanely exotic and amazing. A friend brought me a little cactus for divorce. It was completely rootless, and I didn’t know what to do with it. Mom advised me to cut a stand out of cardboard in the form of a quadrangle with a small hole in the middle. We put this stand on a glass of water, and inserted a small cactus into the hole.

Literally a month later, roots began to appear, which allowed me to soon plant it in the ground. The cactus took root, but every day I dreamed of only one thing, so that it began to bloom. Years passed, the cactus grew, but did not spoil me with flowering, I was already completely desperate.

Over the years, my fascination with cacti has become even more intense. Every time I got to a flower shop, I took on a new look of these thorny pets. Studying the literature on caring for cacti, I learned a lot of new and important things for myself. The soil for cacti should be of a special composition, loose, allowing the plant to breathe.

Transplanting cacti is not easy because of their mighty thorns. It is better to use thick gloves to avoid damage. The pot should be slightly larger than the previous one.

Cacti don’t like to be spun on the window. To do this, I took ordinary paper clips, stuck them into the soil with the plant and thereby fixed the position of the cactus on the window. I put the pots of plants on the sunny side. And I reduced watering for them to a minimum, about once a week. Believe it or not, my cacti are blooming one after another, everyone is very surprised at this. But it really is. Good luck and may your thorny pets spoil you with their growth and flowering.
