How to plant potatoes according to the method of Galina Kizima

During the growing process Solanaceae have to deal with soil depletion, especially in small areas where it is not possible to change the landing site each time. In such cases, alternative culture methods are used. Planting potatoes according to the method of Galina Kizima implies refusing to dig up the garden.

Rules for planting potatoes according to the method of Galina Kizima

The essence of the method

Galina Kizima has written several books in which she describes her method of growing potatoes, calling her “smart bed.” Galina Kizima grew potatoes on 6 acres and, noticing that over time the soil loses quality even when fertilizing, began to look for an alternative. Its technology is based on 3 “not”:

  • do not dig;
  • do not water;
  • do not cultivate.

If digging occurs 2 times per season, both pathological and beneficial microorganisms. Plus, treatment with fungicides, herbicides and disinfectants completely depletes the soil. As a result, plants lack minerals, and they grow frail, often influenced by all kinds of fungi. Kizima defines the following procedure:

  • seed selection;
  • planting;
  • care;
  • harvesting.

Preparation of tubers

The size of potatoes should not be larger than the size of a chicken egg. It is in such a fruit that a sufficient amount of nutrients is provided that ensure the normal growth and development of the plant. When using small root crops, it is recommended to lay them out at once in 2-3 pieces to ensure a sufficient number of stems, otherwise the quality of the crop will decrease.

At the time of planting, the potatoes should be sprouted. Sprouts should reach 4-5 cm. This helps the plants survive during temperature changes in the spring. To quickly germinate, the tubers are thoroughly washed, and after that they are folded into a basin with water heated to 45 ℃. The tubers are kept in the liquid until the temperature drops within 18-20 <.

Separately, a solution of manganese is made, which is added in a thin stream to the basin, mixing until a pale pink color is obtained. Instead of manganese, Phytosporin solution is sometimes used. The tubers are kept in it for 10 minutes, and then the liquid is drained, the root crops are washed and dried. Then they begin landscaping, for which they keep root crops in a well-lit room for 10-20 days.

They put the potatoes in jars and put them on the windowsill, periodically turning to achieve uniform gardening. After that, Kizima advises to begin the process of germination. The tubers are cleaned in a dark, warm room. On growing shoots on average takes 14-21 days.

To increase the number of shoots, a horizontal incision should be made on each potato approximately 7 days before planting. This move allows you to activate the growth of reserve kidneys in the lower part of the root crop. If the sprouts appeared prematurely, for example, in winter, they should be removed, otherwise the quality of the crop will suffer in the future.

Planting

Растения нуждаются в солнечном свете

Plants need sunlight

Planting should be done in an open sunny area. Potato is a heat-loving plant, for normal development it needs a sufficient amount of light. The method is aimed at reducing the size of the ground part, which allows to obtain smooth tubers of large sizes.

The optimal planting time for potatoes is the period when the top layer of the earth will be sufficiently dry. To get a good potato crop, the shoots are well covered so that they are in the dark. Growing potatoes with this method involves studying the principles of plant growth. Tubers are formed not on the rhizome itself, but on stolons — shoots that form on the bottom of the sprouts. Such shoots perfectly develop not only in the compost layer, but also under light-tight flasks.

Before planting root crops, you can carefully remove the top layer of soil, but leave it here on the bed. The marking of the beds is carried out directly by the area of the site, even if it has weed grass.The main thing is not to dig the soil. The tubers are placed exactly in line with the pitch between rows of 40-50 cm and 25 cm from each other.

In the first row, it is recommended to plant early species, and in the other – mid-season or late to stock up for winter. In the northern and central regions, it is customary to plant early varieties. You can collect them 50-70 days after planting, they are practically not affected by late blight.

Cover for beds

To protect the frosts, shoots are covered with dry material with good breathability. The ideal option is hay. They do not recommend using straw: it attracts rodents. Alternatively, use dry foliage or an upper dry layer of compost.

If cover material has not been prepared in advance, use newspapers. Only the beds themselves cover. So that the shelter is not demolished by the wind, it is covered with lutrasil or burlap on top. After the end of the frost, it is removed and organic fertilizers applied directly on top of the covering material. Liquid fertilizers are poured between the rows, and the grass is laid on top of the plantations, while not covering the seedlings.

It is strictly forbidden to use the film to cover. Under it, root crops will begin to rot, and as a result, there will be no harvest at all.

Care

Growing potatoes with Kuzima means removing the buds at the time of their formation. During flowering, the plant throws energy to the formation of berries with seeds, as a result, the rhizome develops poorly.As soon as the tops in the ranks close, the tops are removed.

This move allows you to suspend the growth of the ground part and direct forces to the growth of the rhizome. Flowers are left on 2 bushes to be able to determine the time of harvest. Once the flowers have withered, they begin to harvest.

Harvest

Сбор урожая проводят поэтапно

Harvesting is carried out in stages

The first root crops are harvested after the flowers wither. For this, the shelter layer is pushed back and the tubers lying on the surface are collected, then the compost is neatly laid in place. With this method of harvesting, the stolons are not damaged, so the root crops continue to develop further.

When the entire crop from a row of early potatoes is harvested, the tops are stacked on the surface of the beds. There is an opinion that solanaceae tops cannot be left on the rows, because they contain the poison of solanine, but under the influence of direct sunlight, the whole solanine leaves and remains a wonderful fertilizer. The main thing is not to fill the tops with weeds. In a similar way, Kizima harvests from rows of late potatoes.

What to do with the remaining material

Everything that remains on the potato bed is left for the winter. The immature compost during the winter is completely decomposed and makes the soil neutral. Under such conditions, you can grow potatoes in the same place for several years in a row, without fear of soil depletion.

Galina Kizima offers a method that absolutely does not require energy, because you do not need to plant potatoes directly in the ground, it is enough to spread the root crops on the surface and sprinkle them with hay. Everything in the garden is used, even weeds are used as cover material.

Pros and cons of technology

The main disadvantage of this method is the unaesthetics of the beds. With this method of growing potatoes, the garden becomes like a garbage bin, all the more there are more progressive ways to grow potatoes in a small area, such as growing in containers or barrows. The second and main disadvantage is that Phytosporin or manganese are not able to completely protect potatoes from the attack of pests and all kinds of diseases.

Phytospore in a compost mound under the influence of heat will develop even faster, especially after precipitation. In addition, the method is completely unsuitable for large areas, because the buds per 1 ha of plantings cannot be removed at all. The method has several advantages:

  • saving money on fertilizers and water;
  • saving on digging and watering;
  • ease of harvesting.

The cultivation of potatoes by the Kizima method causes a lot of controversy. It involves the removal of inflorescences at the stage of budding, in order to redirect the energy of the plant to the growth of rhizomes.Planting potatoes for hay has been used for a long time, and in some cases it gives good results, but is not suitable for every plot. At the same time, pests and late blight feel fine under a cover of hay and compost, and you can never get rid of ailments in one fell swoop with the help of Fitosporin.

Uncooked compost at the time of decomposition makes the soil acidic, which negatively affects the quality of the crop: potatoes do not respond well to high acidity. and precise control over the condition of the tops. In the compost layer left for the winter, the larvae of the Colorado potato beetle will feel fine. This is another 1 minus of the method.

Conclusions

In general with a combination of the Kizima method and other methods you When harvesting nightshade, you can get an excellent harvest. Many farmers who compare the productivity of plants that were constantly taken care of and crops grown according to the recommendations of Kizima, note that the former give greater growth than the latter. Each summer resident chooses how to plant potatoes on their own, depending from the weather conditions of your region and the territory of the site.
